She seemed almost upset. Her face serious, pensive. Understandably so. In 30 minutes she would sing in an unfamiliar space. She wanted her sharing of song to go well. At practice a couple of days before she experienced feedback from the sound system. Would it happen again? As some of us worked to find the best solution, she became more confident. I feel better she said, thank you. Yet she still seemed very serious. I recognized the “look”, it is how I feel sometimes before a talk or a special event. The look of wanting all to be well. She had the serious look of will all be well?
As she approached the microphone the serious countenance remained. As the piano accompaniment began, she began to smile, then something amazing took place. As she sang the words which song after song spoke in one way shape or form of the wonders of God and the divine in life and every situation of life, her face glowed, she looked happy, radiant, peaceful, at ease, confident, reassured. I sat listening to her beautiful voice and the beautiful piano accompaniment. I also reflected on the transformation and the connection to everyday life.
When we are deeply in tune with the divine life within, our countenance is peaceful, assured, confident, radiant, at ease. This is the gift the divine spirit gives which is not dependent on what we do or how we say it. Rather, the gift is unconditional whether we miss the notes of life, go flat or sharp in the everyday situations we encounter, forget to be the fullness of our createdness— our God is there. The divine life within says, it is a new day, come enjoy the wonder you are. Embrace the spirit within. Go on your way, (from the Christian scriptures, Luke 10:1-12, 17-20) in whatever situation you find yourself, I am with you. I am always with you. Embrace the Spirit within.
Our invitation is to embrace the Spirit within.
Blessings and peace,
